I Learned to Juggle
> KEEP_IT_UP...
Juggling is the perfect "useless" skill. It impresses people at parties and improves brain neuroplasticity. I bought 3 beanbags.
Day 1: The Throw
The secret to juggling isn't catching; it's throwing. You have to throw the ball to the imaginary box in the air.
I spent 1 hour just throwing one ball back and forth. Boring.
Then 2 balls. "Throw, Throw, Catch,
Catch."
Day 3: The Cascade (3 Balls)
I tried to add the 3rd ball. Total chaos. I spent 55 minutes of the hour picking balls up off the floor.
> BACK_PAIN_LEVEL: High (from bending over).
Day 5: The "Flash"
Something clicked. I stopped looking at my hands and looked at the top of the arc. I got 3 catches. Then 5. Then 10.
It's about rhythm. One-two-three, one-two-three.
Day 7: Continuous Juggling
I can now juggle for about 30 seconds without dropping. It is meditative. You can't think about taxes or emails when you are juggling; if you lose focus for 0.1s, everything falls.
Conclusion
Juggling is a flow-state hack. If you are stressed, try to keep 3 objects in the air. Your brain is forced to focus on the present physical reality. Highly recommended for anxiety.
